Building Northwest Oklahoma for four generations.

W.W. Starr Lumber Company began on November 1, 1909 with a wagon, a team of two mules and one hired hand. Today our four home-center locations — Alva, Blackwell, Enid and Woodward — carry everything a builder, farmer or homeowner needs to get the job done.

Our Story

One family. One promise. Since 1909.

Wilson Worth Starr began the business in 1909, and his family continues to own and operate the company today. In more than 115 years, Starr Lumber has been led by only four managers — a continuity northwest Oklahoma has built on for generations.

1909

A Wagon & Two Mules

W.W. Starr starts the company on November 1, 1909 — assets: a wagon, a team of two mules, one hired hand — and earns a reputation as a community builder.

1960

The Ryerson Years

Norman Ryerson strengthens the Alva yard; his son Richard takes over in 1960 and later adds larger yards in Woodward and Blackwell.

1998

John Joins the Business

After ten years in the financial sector, John Ryerson joins his father Richard in the family business. John serves today as President of the Corporation.

2015

Enid & the Home Centers

John negotiates the purchase of the Athey lumberyard in Enid (2015), and major investments move all four stores from lumber yards to larger home-center formats.
